My 2013 in Music

  • What did you do this year that you’d never done before?
  • What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
  • Did you fall in love this year?
  • What did you get really, really, really excited about?

The Eason Chan concert answers these. Hands-down. I wrote 30 posts in 30 days about it, traveled to another country for it, and loved every single moment. It was a bucket list item crossed off, and it made me want to go back again the very next day. I was on an oxytocin high for 24 hours after and to this day if I hear the concert’s opening song, tears come to my eyes.

  • What was your greatest musical discovery?

I think that music is so important to me. I was working on the navigation of this blog and I realized that a lot of what I want to write about, think about, read about is music. I listen to music all the time. It modulates, supports, and comforts me, and I never realized before this year how much it really matters to me. I would also say that my exploration of Kpop has taken me in a new direction – I have liked Kpop since the 90s, but with the easy access to Kpop on iTunes nowadays, I buy a whole lot more.

Most-Played Jam

This is my most-played song of 2013, which jives with the difficult year we’ve had. It’s brash, unapologetically cocksure, audaciously arrogant, and just what I needed to get my head back in the game time after time. Love that song.

2013 ThisIsMyJam Posts

The track at the top of this post was generated from songs I’d posted on throughout 2013…I wish I’d had a bit more control over the interaction but it’s nifty anyway 😀
