Check out this article on Time’s website. Read at the very last line.
Now. I am not even going to get into my opinions on what the article is about. Ridiculous Californians, legislating something as obviously unenforceable as this. And I believe in spanking to a point. But I have seen spanking that wasn’t spanking, and there’s a fine line. Whatever. Let them do what they want. If it passes, that is the will of the people in Cali. Not my problem.
However, I laughed out loud at the ignorance of Nadine Block in her stunning comment:
“Today, we can’t hit slaves, wives or military personnel. Children are the only class that is unprotected.”
Because, yeah, we have slaves. Oh my God. I mean, she is talking about the civil rights of slaves as if they were of the identifiable strata of society. As if they had other rights, but not that of being free of abuse. Now, I am not saying that we don’t have slaves. Sex slaves, wage slaves, all kinds of slaves in this country that people don’t talk about, and hesitate to use the word “slave” for. But, jeez, Nadine, don’t equate these unfortunate people with a demographic, as if they could be counted and their rights protected. The slaves we have here are not under the eye of any legislative public office. They are hidden, slaves by definition because they are being hidden from society and forced to whatever dark deeds. Shit. As if Nadine had anything to do with the protection of slaves.
Tsk.
