A student cancelled one night, and asked A. to tell me he wanted to reschedule for later that night, so A. told me to call him and reschedule, saying nothing about that night. I asked, “Is this a no-show?” Yes, she said, which means I get paid for it. So I called him the next day. Well, he was mad because we didn’t reschedule for the night before. So I squeezed him in between students the next afternoon.
Well, come pay time, S. tried to get me to say it was OK if they didn’t charge him for that no-show class. Like, “Since he’s a long-term customer and stuff, i don’t think we should charge him for that class day, if that’s OK with you.” I refused to accept the blame for the situation, and told her it’s her business, her decision. If she didn’t want to pay me, she didn’t have to, but it was not my choice. She tried again through other verbage to lay the blame on me, to get me to acquiesce to the decision she had already made, but I danced around it, too, refusing to OK her decision. What should I say, “Yeah, why don’t you just not pay me? Why not just NOT pay me for the whole month?!?” She says, “Well, if you had just called him that night none of this would have happened.” I told her point blank that A. said it was a no-show and that I should call and reschedule whenever. Again, not my fault. I told her teachers get the short end of the stick here, and she countered, saying that everything she does is for the teachers, and that I am the only one who sees it that way. Yeah. I wish my coworkers had the balls to say something. Or cared enough. But it’s not their full-time money, and I worry that if I piss her off she will just dick me over more than she already has.
So at the beginning of this month, my check was 3 days late because they thought I made a mistake on my hours. Turns out they didn’t check the paper carefully enough. The new hours sheets have too few columns for students who meet twice a month, so I put May on 2 rows for one girl. Oops, ha ha, we’re sorry, it’s going to take a few more days to get you your check, so sorry. We’re not going to be in the office for the next few days, so whenever we get around to it, you’ll get paid. Ya know, it’s not like we get paid weekly or anything.
AAAAGH. And…there’s more…S. didn’t know if one of my other students had any hours left from his budget so she STOPPED CLASSES for a week, and made us wait. Turns out he does have hours left, oops, sorry again, you can go back to his classes…And another student is pregnant and decided she’s too tired to have classes, and God only knows what’s next…I have a million stories.
